As Copperdollar Studios closes for the festive period, we reflect on the events of a difficult, ‘unprecedented’ year everything changed.
This moment in history will be remembered as the year everything changed for people across the world. The government-enforced lockdowns have been undeniably catastrophic for peoples businesses, educations and livelihoods. The arts, an industry that provides joy and employment to so many people, have been on a forced hiatus due to social distancing regulations. But what the period did depict was a much-needed rest for our living planet and reignited community compassion. This year has also highlighted how much we rely on the strength of key workers to keep us afloat on a daily basis.
Copperdollar Studios would like to thank everyone who walked through our doors this year – and to those who got in touch. It is always great for us to see both old and new faces. As a studio space for hire, we have been unable to operate for large parts of the year. When we have been permitted to open our doors, there have been restrictions on the number of bookings we can take during one period of time. We, amongst many other small businesses, have understood the sacrifices needed to help reduce the spread of the virus.
2020 has been a year of adaptation to overcome these challenges. We have all had to change our habits in some fashion, whether it’s remembering to unmute the microphone on Zoom or leaving the house with a face mask. Copperdollar Studios has evolved in some ways too, going above and beyond to ensure you are safe in our space. Our studio has welcomed live streams as a new way for people to connect to their audiences through digital spaces. We also launched a successful new blog series entitled ‘Women & Creativity’ to explore some of the creative triumphs of women in our community. Studio owner, Kt, embarked on her MA in Movement in September, marking the next exciting steps in her creative journey as an artistic director.
We hope to reopen from Monday 11 January 2021, virus-permitting, and welcome some exciting new creative projects into the space again. With the Pfizer vaccine already being rolled out in the UK, there is some hope in sight for an end to the chaos. Although it seems unlikely that normality will return for quite some time, the tumultuous year is concluding with a glimmer of optimism.
We are closing our doors for the festive break from Monday 21 December 2021 until Monday 11 January 2021. We wish you a restful festive period and a safe start to the New Year. The studios is still taking bookings online through our new automated system.
