Copperdoller Studios will be home to an immersive film screening at the end of this month. The Social Society is bringing the first instalment of their ‘Mystery Movie’ event to the studios on 29 February 2020.
Toni Finnimore founded the member’s organisation through a love of connecting people. Toni says: “Mystery movies is a cinema event where we create an immersive space for you to watch a secret movie. We send out clues on social media ahead of the event and the audience finds out what they will be watching on the day.” Toni tells us a friend of hers previously used the space for a photoshoot and thought it would be a cosy place with character – ideal for the screening.
The Brighton-based members’ organisation has been providing skills, time, and funds to various charities through fundraising. “We hosted a 600 capacity festival on Hove lawns in the summer. We also host beachside acoustic music pop-ups, monthly socials, workshops and have just launched a pudding club that will be streamed nationally to help combat loneliness in the UK.”
The Social Society originally started at a meetup in 2015, organising events to support local charities and connect the community. Now, it has expanded to the UK’s first social club for volunteering and fundraising in Brighton & Hove. Toni says: “We formed just over a year ago now and our main aim is to support charities with our unique volunteering subscription service”
Their main objectives include reducing isolation in the community and supporting charities by utilising skills of members of the public so they no longer have to rely on external support. The organisation hosts events like Mystery Movie and offers memberships to raise funds for partnered charities.
Mystery Movie will take place at Copperdollar Studios on Sat 29 February 2020 over two sessions: 1.30pm to 4pm & 5pm to 7.30pm.
