This year’s Day of the Dead has fittingly been one to remember. Kt and her Copperdollar team were in London, Basingstoke and Belfast, all in the space of a week. The performers put on and featured in some really wonderful, family orientated events. We thought we should share with you some of their personal highlights because they were all rehearsed in the Copperdollar Studios – see them behind the scenes here.
Some of the rehearsals were held at the Proteus Creation Centre in Basingstoke with a group of students who were taking part in half-term theatre workshops.
Basingstoke Day Of The Dead – The team were invited back for the 2nd year running to the Day Of The Dead event at Top Of Town in Basingstoke. From face paints to lantern workshops and lots of delicious Mexican food, it was a lively and uplifting night. There was a turnout of over 3 thousands people. One of the favourite parts was the community parade led by the Copperdollar performers and Proteus Theatre Company which took place in the evening. They also incorporated a giant spider made by Scratchbuild which was fantastic. The night ended with some of the well-known Copperdollar dances which turned the square into a flash mob spectacular. Many people had learnt the moves via the online tutorial video prior to the event. It was a truly fantastic night and the Copperdollar team hope to see everyone again next year.
Horniman Halloween Fair – The creepy crawlies in the Wild Fangs cave were a highlight at the Horniman Halloween Fair in London, as was the spooky storytelling and amazing arts and crafts markets and fabulous food stalls. The Copperdollar Skelly Girls were there to lead the Halloween Parade through the Gardens and had a great time meeting all of the tiny monsters who had dressed up for the occasion.
Belfast Monster Mash – The Monster Mash at the The Slipways, Titanic Belfast was another truly wicked event. There was spooky street theatre (of course), macabre music, wicked workshops, fearsome fire juggling and much more. The eerie evening drew to a close with the largest fireworks display in the city set to a scary samba soundtrack. Seeing 3 thousand people was fantastic. Thank you to everyone who came.
Keep your eyes peeled on the following links for more events near you. The Copperdollar team hope you had a great Halloween, wherever you were.
