Dance Professionals Fund is an organisation aiming to support dancers throughout their lives. They have offered financial support to professional dancers, dance teachers, choreographers and choreologists for over 80 years. Clemmie Cowl, Executive Director, spoke to us about the launch of their brand new website. Their incredible photographs were taken in the Hayloft studio.
Hello! Can you tell us a little bit about what you’ve worked on recently at the Copperdollar Studios?
Dance Professionals Fund is a charity that helps professional dancers and dance teachers and we wanted to create a new and welcoming brand and website. We worked on our photographic shoot with amazing models from Fresh Agency and the photography company Alonglines.
How did you hear about the studios?
We had been planning to use the studios to shoot a film last year – sadly it didn’t work out so I guess you could say second time lucky.
What do you like most about the Copperdollar Studios and what would you say makes it different from other studios you’ve used?
Copperdollar is a fantastic location. The walls in the Hayloft have a great texture and on the day we were there, the sun suddenly came out for us so some of the pictures were taken in the most amazing light. We wanted to create a modern vibe to a traditional dance space wouldn’t have worked at all. We wanted an effect more like The Greatest Dancer than somewhere that most people wouldn’t recognise!
What advice would you give to someone who is interested in trying dance but doesn’t know where to start?
Just start somewhere and you’ll be amazed at what you can do! The best thing about dance is that it really is something that everyone can have a go at, have fun and usually feel fitter afterwards. My personal advice is that it is always nice to do something with a specific achievement at the end, so a Tango class, for instance, will show you how to do all the steps to dance the Tango.
What is your favourite part of your job and why?
Most dancers, especially if they are celebrities are often too busy helping others, they will often raise money for charities for instance, but then there needs to be someone there to help them if they need it. Knowing we have made a difference is always the best part.
